I think, like many other players, I had the perception that Kirby and the forgotten land would be an open world game, perhaps a reimagination, to the super Mario Odyssey, from the favorite pink ball of children and adults alike. So I could not avoid feeling a little dismay when I saw that, in reality, the game maintains a perfectly linear structure. For this advance we have been able to play only the first world of the game, which serves as tutorial of the new mechanics, so it is difficult to judge whether the design of the levels or worlds will be expanded as progress; But, as far as the initial stretch is concerned, the title does not deviate much from the structure of any of the previous games.

Does this mean that Kirby and the forgotten land is a bad game? Absolutely. It has exactly everything we expect from Kirby: a very worked adorability, the just point of references to other titles and sufficient new elements as to stay interested in the whole. But clearly it is not a reimagination of the franchise, but a logical progression of which it was already its idiosyncrasy until now.
At the beginning of the game, we present a small hub, the village of the Waddle-Dee, which is in ruins, and that we will build as we will supecate the levels and rescue the bichillos that reside there. When we reach a certain number of Waddle-dees rescued, new constructions will appear that will serve us for different purposes. And it is also through this Hub the way we will access the map. A map in which we can move, and that it contains different levels that we will have to access and overcome. In addition to reaching the finish line, there will also be different objectives to comply with each 1. Some of these objectives will be given explicitly on the start screen of each phase, and others will have to discover them on our own. The number of Waddle-dees that we returned to the villa at the end of each level will depend on how many missions we achieve, and the number of Waddle-dees in the Villa will condition the number of new establishments, with improvements, new features for our character and some that another minigame, so we will want to strive to find the secrets of each world. It is a good incentive to explore or, at least, to make us come back several times at each level before moving on.
In this regard, almost everything is as we remembered, but perhaps the change that is perceived more immediately is the perspective. Abandoning the lateral displacement of the latest 3DS and Wii U titles, the game maps are now in 3D, allowing free displacement but no camera movement. It is true that, at certain occasions, we can tilt it a little to the left and right, but usually the angle of vision is fixed and will be moving at the same pace as us. This creates a small imprecision in the movement sometimes, especially when our character is further away from us, and some frictions when it comes to spinning some corners or exploring some specific places. Nothing dramatic, and in general it is quite refreshing to be able to move for each phase with this new dynamic. The first world, as I said, has a bit of a tutorial character, and precisely why I believe that the complexity of the levels was not particularly high, but even thus there are a multitude of secrets, alternative and collectible ways to find if we dig a little.
As always, Kirby can absorb enemies and transform themselves into some of them, acquiring him's skills. The novelty that arose in this delivery was the possibility of absorbing some objects, making ourselves in them. In the initial trailers the cone transformation was shown, in soft drink machine and, the most striking of all, by car: these three we will find them at the first level, and we will use them assiduously during the course of all others. To this add up other transformations perhaps a minus anenecdotic, but also curious and useful, that we have seen: the shelf, which allows us to reveal secret secrets behind it and even throw walls below, and the transformation into a kind of water tank That we will have to open to unveil secrets or objects. These two transformations have more concrete uses, but with all the others we can move relatively free by the map, resolving different puzzles and situations to move forward. It is not that we can - hopefully - spend a whole world being a car, at least for the moment, but we are allowed to explore enough with the transformation over.
It is noted that the transformations in objects will be a constant throughout the game, and that they will be one of the elements that contributes constant variety to gameplay. The rest of the transformations, those of obtaining powers through the enemies of a lifetime, also have some little girls: an establishment in the village that makes the nucleus of the adventure will allow us, in exchange for coins and rewards of certain mini-games, improve them So that the special attack we make when we have them equipped has different range and movements.
Even so, the start of the game seems, for the moment, quite tentative. A well-spinning level design, but still not very crazy, and funny and potential transformations, but that are not yet used with true dynamism, they are located in a title that has potential to be a great platform, but still does not show signs Differentials to previous deliveries beyond the evident major technical power of the console. And, now revisiting the initial images of the game, the first trailer with which this Kirby was presented, the truth is that they do not hide anything: everything we saw in them is in the first compasses of the game. But it is true that the whole of all of them gave to understand a different thing. I am afraid that expectations of something different will negatively impact the game at the end, that reception is generally more warm because of it; But perhaps it is true that Kirby's traditional formula, although always nice, could also benefit from a small twist.
